SUTTONS BAY, Mich (WOOD)All week, we been highlighting getaway ideas in the Traverse City area, a part of Northern Michigan that has a lot to offer and today, we taking a trip off the beaten path.
You may heard of a place called Sutton Bay, it sometimes called the gateway to Leelanau County,
which is part of Michigan famous wine country.
Rachael got a chance to visit Bahle which opened in 1876 as a general store. The store, which now carries specialty clothing for men and women and is still owned by the Bahle family. You can find pieces of the stores history all throughout Bahle that are now part of the current store.
We also got a chance to visit Mawby Vineyards. They planted their first grapes in 1973 and in 1978 Larry Mawby made his first bottle of wine. The vineyards started out making table wines but now focus on sparkling wines. One particular wine, Sex, is one of the best sellers. It a rose and tank fermented sparkling wine. Mawby has a tasting room, they serve food, and it a great place to see the fall colors.
