Bob Brunjes, who in January was promoted to president and general manager of the Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers, will become president and publisher on June 1 after long time publisher Tom Weber retires. Brunjes, 51, joined the Treasure Coast Newspapers, which serve residents and businesses in the southeast Florida markets of Stuart, Port St. Lucie, Vero Beach, Ft. Pierce, Jupiter and Sebastian, in 1996. He served as the classified display manager and retail sales manager before 2000, when he was promoted to vice president and advertising director.
Weber, 65, previously had announced he would end his 43 year Scripps career in late 2009 after a period during which Brunjes would prepare to assume the publisher role. The change will occur sooner than planned based on Weber desire to have the transition progress ahead of schedule.
“Tom has forever changed the face of newspapering on Florida Atlantic coast, and he be sorely missed by a legion of fans in and around Scripps, including me,” said Mark G. Scripps Company. “While he leaves very big shoes to fill, no one is more ready for the task than Bob Brunjes.
