Decorate your toenails with a shimmer polish, suggests Michelle Mismas, founder of All Lacquered Up, a nail focused beauty blog based in Cleveland. She says to combine a silver or gold shoe with a shimmer polish, or paint a plum color on your toenails to accent a silver shoe and create intense gleam.
“It is a good time to get a pedicure, but if you don have time, then go for a nude base color with glitter that will mask some of the imperfections. It the holidays, so find some fun polish and embrace it. It your time to shine.”

While winter isn known as a time for open toe sandals or footwear with embellishments, it should be, says Barbara Gambotto, owner of Primadonna Collection footwear with stores in Ross Park Mall and South Hills Village.
“Sparkly shoes make you feel like a princess,
” Gambotto says. “Gold or silver shoes are a good match with your little black dress. They are the perfect accessory and add shine to your outfit. You can wear an all over sparkle shoe with a high heel that is more aggressive or a pair of flats with shine. You find the perfect party shoe that fits your style. Also, mixed materials gold with silver is very popular. They won go out of style.”
Gambotto cautions about wearing these shoes outside and says it better to carry them and have another footwear choice to brave the elements.
Footwear is seasonless, especially something like a metallic, because it considered a neutral and goes with everything, says Gregg Andrews, Nordstrom fashion director.
“Sandals with sparkle are fun because it the holidays, and it definitely time to dance into the New Year or just celebrate with friends and family in a festive atmosphere,” Andrews says.
“Embellished footwear is a huge trend this time of year. Footwear becomes a focal point, just like wearing a fun necklace or pair of earrings. Take something basic you have worn many times from your wardrobe and make it look new with a new pair of shoes.”
An embellished sandal can definitely be worn after the party is over with a T shirt and a pair of skinny jeans, Andrews says. A metallic shoe in gold, silver or bronze is a great choice for an elegant outfit, Moon says. It gives you a lot of versatility. Accessories such as footwear are finishing pieces. Take that black dress and add fun shoes to take the outfit to the next level.
“The right pair of sparkly shoes will give a woman both confidence and shine,” says Jill Rubinstein, owner of Footloose in Shadyside.
If you decided to make the big statement with your shoes, definitely go a bit more subtle with the dress in terms of color and print, Miner says.
“Accessorize your look with glitzy studs and a bib necklace, finishing off with simple bangles,” Miner says.
